The importance of being a Reader (Sau cum sa fii inteligent: Citeste o carte!)

This time I've decided to discuss a little bit about the benefits of being a Reader. Before starting I would like to mention my decision of writing in English. I noticed that yesterday I had some visitor from countries where English language is spoken. Therefore, from time to time I will post in English in order to expand my audience. I will try, probably, some post in Italian. We will see how things work :)

So, books! Many of us use them only to decorate their living-rooms: 'Look, I have a book-store! I am smart!', for others they cease to mean something from the day they leave their university/college aaand a small segment does love them, would get lost in the activity of reading for hours. Reading becomes simply a splendid way of spending time. How can I motivate this choice? I simply understand them because I am one of them and I am a proud one. I simply would advice anyone to take into consideration from time to time to open these magic gates to information, adventure, fantasy. I am a Reader and  if you don't like books I might understand you although they covers subjects for any taste. But, yes, we live in this tremendous era of speed. There is no time for reading. Yet, if you  have no motivation you can try scanning newspapers, magazines. Or, if you are a web fan don't forget you can find a wide variety of articles and books in electronic format or try also e-reading on your mobile device, I-pad etc.

 I will enumerate bellow some of the advantages that readers enjoy. They:
  • are better informed. Many children have to face the cruelty of bulling but, hey! stay as envious as you you can but reality is that a children who reads will always be smarter;
  • develop skills in verbal communication by adding a boost to their vocabulary. There is no surprise that they are more involved in discussions, they use a wide range of words;
  • learn how to stay silent and calm; they understand the meaning of being a listener. The activity of reading makes you understand that in a discussion you have to be also patient, you must let your recipient to express himself,
  • can travel do different places with the speed of light just by using their imagination. They discover new civilizations, customs, habits.
  • develop their senses. One, while reading, can taste that delicious pudding, can smell the flavor of cinnamon , can touch the jelly-fish texture, can hear the noise made by spoon in the bowl and above all he sees it on the table with steams coming out as it was recently poured in the ceramic bowl;
  • are more optimistic. You will asks: 'What is all the fun in reading a book? It's only a boring activity!' I totally disagree because reading influences your brain in an invisible way, yet a crucial one. It is as if you are a having a good laugh or you are playing basketball. If you enjoy the story from book, hormones like serotonin and endorphin are released. Watching a soap-opera or the broadcast has a negative influence upon brain cells. Bad hormones start to operate. This is a major problem for people constantly and daily connected or addicted to watching TV. I am interested in a small debate regarding the negative impact of television on our behavior and I will write these days my opinion. Stay tuned on blog ;)
  • know and understand better others. They become more sympathetic; they react with empathy because readers are more accustomed with different behaviors;
  • react faster because they already faced indirectly a situation in one of the hundreds of books they read.

Probably I did not cover all reasons why someone should become a reader but I hope that my intention will make a change.

My advice for today: Finish working-day! Go home and before pushing the turn-on button of your TV remote control please consider the choice of holding a book in your hands.  It waits for you, it is eager to let itself open, discovered. Smell its pages, feel the passion inside of it, live the adventure depicted, give your brain a dose of knowledge! Let your imagination work! Read a book!
